An issue of Tharunka dedicated to women’s and feminist issues has been published usually on an annual basis throughout much of the paper’s history. These issues present women’s perspectives on a wide range of topics that the second wave of feminism brought into public consciousness: domestic violence, job discrimination, women’s sexual pleasure, access to abortion, and the representation of women in the media. Women’s issues often featured reprints of articles from newspapers and journals from Europe and the United States, as well incorporating as reports on local women’s issues and feminist activism. Combined with personal accounts of sexism from UNSW students, this collection offers readers a strong source for researching Australian feminism in the late 20th century.
