TitlePlay: on the beach with the Ballets RussesDate2009SubjectDance FilmDescription
Play choreographs manipulated footage of Ballets Russes soloists playing on Bungen Beach Sydney, late 1930’s. The dancers, leading soloists, are young and carefree. Their body shapes are quite different from today. An amateur cameraman, Ewan Murray-Will, filmed them on the beach and around his beach house where he entertained the dancers in their spare time. Some sequences are as ‘found’. Other sequences have been edited and manipulated to create a new film choreography from the existing fragments.
